Vintage Kappa Chopsticks rest and Mini plate

The chopsticks rest has a shape of Sake bottle and a cup, and the Kappa looks like the style of drawing from 鳥獣人物戯画 Choju-jinbutsugiga.

The mini plate is good to use as a soy sauce or seasoning plate.  It has shiny brown in 3 parts.

What is 鳥獣人物戯画 Choju-jinbutsugiga

鳥獣人物戯画 Choju-jinbutsugiga is an old picture scroll of a paper book drown sumi-e (black ink painting).  It is a national treasure and preserved at Kodaiji Temple in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto.

In particular, the instep roll, in which rabbits, frogs, and the monkeys are anthropomorphized (drawn human like), is very famous. In some scenes, a technique similar to the effect used in current manga can be seen, so it is also called “Japan’s oldest manga.”
