Tokoname ware (常滑焼, Tokoname-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around Aichi, Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the six Antient Kilns of Japan and it dates back to the 12th century.
The teapot is made from Tokoname’s red (vermilion) clay, which is known for its iron-rich content.
This type of clay is said to remove the tannin (bitterness) from tea, resulting in a milder flavor.
The teapot features a design of Ume (plum blossoms) branches that are curved, with white blossoms painted on.
This design can be seen in more detail in the last photo, which was taken under studio lighting.
The teapot also comes with a removable strainer that has a handle for easy use.
