Would you like to start a healthy eating lifestyle but don’t know where to start? There is a lot of information about healthy eating because now more people are interested in being healthy.
Health is our wealth and I hate being sick. So here is an article about starting a healthy eating.
Healthier substitutes
Now I’ll give you examples on healthier substitutes for the ingredients of pancakes.
To make pancakes you would normally use; flour, eggs, sugar, milk, and maybe yoghurt.
<Flour>
Instead of normal highly processed flour, you can use oat flour and buckwheat flour. Oat flour can be made at home. All you have to do is blend oats (rolled oats are healthier choice) in the blender for a few minutes.
<Sugar>
A great substitute for sugar for pancakes is banana, instead of adding sugar mash up some bananas and add them to your mixture.
<Milk>
Using almond milk instead of ordinary milk is pretty common nowadays. All you need are 50g of almonds and 300ml of water – soak the almonds in water overnight and rinse them, then blend them in a blender for a few minutes and strain.
<Eggs>
Instead of Eggs you can use flaxseeds or linseeds (If you don’t have them and you’re not vegan then go ahead and use eggs, they’re still healthy but opt for the ones free-range.)
This vegan pancake recipe is from my friend Daniel @marrowhealth. When we have time in the morning, I make it and even my little one loves it. If you are not vegan, you may feel overwhelmed when looking at the ingredients of other vegan recipes. I also find it overwhelming at times, as sometimes there are some ingredients that I don’t normally buy or maybe are hard to find. But this one is quite straight forward it’s also much healthier than usual pancakes.

Change your drinking habit
Changing your drinking habit to a healthier one is the easiest way to start with healthy eating. This is because preparing your drink is much easier than preparing your food, since this has to continue all year round.
Everyone knows that too much sugar is bad for you and it will lower your immunity. Avoid having sugary drinks including juice.
<Tea>
A healthy option of tea is Sencha green tea powder. It is a fine powder so you can prepare it easily.
Why is Sencha green tea healthy?
Our Sencha green tea powder is made from only quality green tea leaves grown in a small farm without pesticides and chemical fertilisers on a mountain of Uji Kyoto Japan. It is processed by steaming it so the nutrients are kept there. After, they are packed immediately with NO artificial flavouring or preservatives.
You might have heard that Matcha green tea powder was healthy. Sencha has more antioxidants such as Catechins EGCG (a kind of polyphenol) and Vitamin C.
Prevention is the key to live healthy. The powerful antioxidants in Sencha green tea help knocking down the free radicals in your body, which are the cause of major chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, obesity, cancer as well as ageing in the long run.
If you are still drinking your green tea from ‘tea bags’ for your health, I advice you to stop and drink real green tea like this one!
I have explained why in this article: 6 reasons to stop taking ‘Tea bag’ tea
Another asset of Sencha Green tea Powder is that you ingest all the nutrients from it, like eating vegetables.
Easy to prepare
Hot Tea:
- Add 1/2 tsp of green tea powder in a cup
- Pour small amount of hot water around 80 ml (less than 80 degrees – be careful not to pour boiling water as some nutrients will be degraded)
- Stir with a milk-frother or a teaspoon until there are no more lumps
- Add more water or some milk of your choice
- If you like your tea sweet, you can add honey or maple syrup
Cold Tea:
- Add 1/2 tsp of green tea powder in a jar or in a water bottle
- Pour a small amount of water in your jar/bottle (around 80 ml)
- Shake it until the lumps disappear
- Add more water or milk of your choice and shake again (if you like your tea sweet, you can add honey or maple syrup)
- Pour it into your glass and add a few ice-cubes if you would like!
Covid-19
The second wave of Covid-19 is hitting Malta and so we should all do our part to prevent it and stay healthy as much as possible.
The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture announced last month that they have started to do research about the effect of green tea to prevent the spread of Covid-19. I read that some studies have proven that green tea can prevent Influenza virus and Norovirus, therefore I look forward to the good news. They are planning to prove the effect and mechanism by the end of this year.
We have 30g packages for you to try for one month @ 7.25 euros (0.24 euro per cup). If you would like to continue drinking the tea, we have 100g packages @ 13.50 euros (0.13 euros per cup).
