How to care our silk scarves
Silk has luxurious softness and lustrous beauty and it will last for a long time without loosing its quality if you care it properly. I even inherited some from my grandmother which are still in a good condition.
Our silk scarves from Japan are called Obiage which are used as an accessory of Kimono. After using these Obiage, people in Japan normally hang on a hunger in the shade on a nice day (not humid weather) to dry in case they sweat. By hanging it for a day then put properly in a drawer folded in 4 or hung in a wardrobe (like you hung trousers on a hunger) takes off wrinkles naturally, without ironing them.
If you want to clean, we recommend dry-cleaning. Please point out that it is silk at the laundry.
Silk care instruction:
- Never expose silk scarves on direct sunlight for a long period of time
- Never spray perfume or deodorant on silk scarves
- Never put Silk scarves in a washing machine
- Never bleach Silk scarves
- Don’t spray silk scarves with water while ironing
- Don’t treat individual stains with water
- Never wring dry
In case you want to hand wash, please take the following instruction but some dark colour might fade away by washing in the water
- Use a mild soap or specially formulated silk shampoos
- Soak silk in luke warm water for 3-5 minutes.
(If silk is dark or printed, do not let it soak. Just wash it quickly in cold water.) - Gently move the fabric during soaking from side to side. (Do not wring dry!)
Handle wet silk with even greater care as it is very delicate. - After maximum of 5 minutes remove silk from water and rinse the fabric with cold water adding a tea spoon of vinegar to completely rid it of the soap.
- lay it flat on a dry towel, then press and roll the towel to squeeze out the water. Use several layers when using dark or printed silk.
- Roll out the silk and straighten it gently at the corners
- Iron it.
Silk should always be ironed from the backside.
It should always still be slightly moist. Check your iron’s setting!
Don’t iron silk too hot!
Always remember that silk is a protein structure much like human hair. Heat will damage it.
