Handmade Glass Pen with Sakura Wood

This glass pen is made by Japanese craftsmen one by one – totally handmade.

The penholder is made of Sakura (Cherry) wood of Mt. Yoshino (World Heritage) in Nara Prefecture which fell due to Typhoon (storm) No.21 in 2018.

You might wonder why they use the fallen trees.  For the past 1,300 years, cherry trees on Mt. Yoshino have been protected by law and prohibited from being cut down.

You can feel the warmth of nature in the penholder carved from a fallen tree, and the more you use it, the more comfortable it will become.

The transparent and beautiful form of the glass nib is made by the glass artist, Yoshitaka Tajima (Fukui Prefecture, Studio Kasho).

The nib is made of hard glass.

The wooden pen rest is also made of 千本桜 Senbonzakura (cherry tree), the same natural wood as the penholder.

Each penholder and pen rest is handmade of natural wood, therefore the color, shape, and texture of the wood surface are different.

It comes in a nice box (last photo).

Story behind this glass pen

The glass pen is a Japanese-born writing instrument said to have been developed by a Japanese wind chime craftsman in 1902.
At the same time, Kuretake Co., Ltd. was founded in 1902.

As Kuretake celebrated their 120th anniversary, they launched the Kuretake Wood Glass Pen Senbonzakura as one of the writing instruments suitable for the 120th anniversary.
