Japanese Art Brush Set of 4

This is a set of 4 Japanese artist brushes which can use them for picture letters (絵手紙 Etegami).

You can use it when drawing the outline of letters and pictures. Because it uses wool and horsehair, is a little soft and the expression of your work becomes wider.

You can use it to color the drawing. It mainly uses horsehair and wool to improve the water absorption.

3.高級絵手紙用隈取筆

It is used to blur the painted color and make the expression natural. Horsehair and wool are mainly used for this brush.

4.高級絵手紙用面相筆

It is used to express small parts of the drawing such as petals and human faces. Since weasel’s hair is used as the raw material, it has strong elasticity and beautiful lines.

What is 絵手紙 Etegami?

絵手紙 Etegami – A picture letter is a type of letter with a drawing attached to a letter on the same paper. “Letters with pictures” themselves have been around for a long time, but the genre of “picture letters” was established by the calligrapher Kunio Koike from 1978 to 1979 in the art magazine “Quarterly Ginka” of the Cultural Publishing Bureau by announcing 60,000 hand-drawn picture letters as a binding project.

Currently, it is spreading as a hobby mainly for middle-aged and older people in Japan.
