Tokoname ware (常滑焼, Tokoname-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around Aichi, Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the six Antient Kilns of Japan and it dates back to the 12th century.
This unglazed teapot has a simple design with a natural red colour made with the iron-rich red clay in this region, and is popular among Japanese.
This tea pot has a shape of a bowl and is wide at the top of teapot, so it is easy to use and also clean.
By making green tea with this teapot, you may notice that your tea has a mellower taste. That is because the iron of the clay absorbs the tannin of green tea.
A strainer is integrated in the spout inside teapot to avoid tea leaves coming out from the spout. This kind of teapot has a lot of space for tea leaves to open up rather than the one with a strainer at the top of teapot.
