This tea cup is renowned Arita ware made in Arita of Saga prefecture. The tradition of Arita ware dates back to Edo period (17 century).
Arita porcelain is a “porcelain” made from stone called pottery stone, which is then molded and then glazed and baked at a high temperature of 1300 degrees for 17 hours or more. The porcelain is light, hard and durable, and features a beautiful white color, and European aristocrats used to call it “white gold”.
It is a cup made by a technique called “ホタル手 firefly hand”.
Six holes in a shape of star was made around the cup, then the glaze was filled and fired.
See through stars around the cup are so pretty!
The price is per tea cup.
