Vintage Daruma Wooden Doll

This tall, handcrafted wooden doll features a classic Daruma figure on top, surrounded by seven smaller Daruma dolls encircling the body.

The doll is inscribed with the Japanese proverb 七転び八起き (Nanakorobi Yaoki), meaning “Fall seven times, stand up eight,” symbolizing resilience and the strength to rise after challenges.

Standing 17.5 cm tall, the piece has a craftsman’s stamp at the bottom, with an additional stamp on the side suggesting it was purchased from the Kawayu Onsen area.

These unique vintage items come from the personal collection of j-okini’s owner’s grandfather (1919–1998), and have been carefully preserved since the 1990s. Each piece reflects a rich cultural history and has been well cared for over the years.
